yup this is a very overdue blogpost haha...and speaking of overdue...mi overdue library books added up to a $6.40 fine LOL...
the 30hr famine camp was quite an experience...during the briefing 1wk before the camp we were taught to play this game called 'age of civilisations'. basically some members of the group(tribe) had to do tedious and boring 'basic tasks' to ensure the 'survival' of the tribe while the other members had to go to the 'marketplace' to upgrade their 'basic tasks' levels so those tasks become easier to do...one example is the food basic tasks where one tribe member has to painstakingly arrange beans in the shape of foodstuffs...lol...so when the food level is upgraded the gamemasters would give a simpler shape for the tribe member to do...
wenjie was so tired he cant do his facilitator job so ihelped him instead...iwas supposed to be gamemaster coz there was like not enuff tribes to go around lol...there was sort of a plan to let jefry be facilitator also but some mixup caused him to become gamemaster...so i had to be facil for the group miself!?!?
while waiting for the campers to arrive, we changed into the very nice faminecamp tshirt haha...and jefry pt qingjing edwin and i chatted with yvonne and munwai who are both the consultant-level ppl...LOL...jefry came up with the hierarchy of the rank levels of the camp it was so funny it became smthing like a catchphrase thingy alr...
the hierarchy is
camper-level: the campers
facilitator-level: the facilitators and gamemasters
consultant-level: the camp consultants who were the facil's facilitators during the briefing...jefry came up with the 'yvonne-level' and 'munwai-level' lol...in fact the original form is 'munwai-level', used to describe the consultant-level ppl
worldvision-level: the worldvision staff involved in the camp...examples are 'esther-level' lol
this crap is quite funny...lol
ok aniwae while waiting we also played basketball with the judith's sajc gang...judith n qj were in the mini icebreaking group we formed during the briefing...shes quite a funny person but more on that later...
the campers arrive in mini cliques and its so hard to gather them together...lol and summore not at the sametime so alot of facils were loitering around the hall waiting...
ok before continuing...have to say that...the camp location was at acs(barker) and the school is like a chalet!?!?when we were there for the briefing we were almost lost in the school coz its so big!?!?and the facilities are super awesome lol...hofai would say the school is a fortress...
the campers were supposed to have their lunch and proceed to the auditorium for the camp opening ceremony and i met some of mi group members alr haha...there are like 2 cliques...one minigroup is frm the same class in hci and the other minigroup is frm the same class in hcjc and there were 2 nygh girls too...
after the opening ceremony(the hostess was very funny lol) the vips spin some globe thing and some lighting effects came on etc yeah the camp started lol 30hrs of famine!!!theres a video played also with a nice michaeljackson song but dunno wad its called...
ok we proceeded back to the sports hall and i explained the game rules to the 'tribe' lol...btw the tribe is called B12 Mon...haha mi first time facilitating a camp group lol im quite glad there was charlene(consultant) and another consultant-level girl(michelle itink) helping mi haha...both of them are from ntu too!charlene is also accountancy!
before explaining the game rules, i made them do a mini icebreaker so that they know each others names...but have to say their enthu-level is not that high at that point lol so now itink i understand the difficulty of facilitators coz their enthu-level is quite dependent on the campers' enthu-level...but it works the other way too itink...so i tried to be more enthusiastic and it sort of worked itink lol...
being frm top schs itink their gameplan was quite pro lol they kept going for the healthcare marketplace so the basic task for it became simpler...btw for the healthcare basic task every 10mins or so a tribe member has to report at the station to piggyback another tribe member lol...so when the healthcare level reaches level3 all the tribe has to do is to send someone to report at the station every 20mins itink...
the water task was also intensely upgraded by mi tribe...the water task required the tribe member assigned to the task to fill a container with water...but the container had leaks so the tribe member has to keep doing it lol...supermundane task...at level1 the tool the gamemasters provided the tribe is a spoon lol...and as u upgrade the level the tool becomes a cup...for our tribe its quite good coz the container did not have any leaks haha so once its filled the tribe member can slack...
during the game there were 2 'interventions' which means smthing has happened to the villages so the whole camp had to gather at the auditorium where itink the campers got stunned by the game events lol...the first intervention was a 'flood' that occurred in the tribes so the task levels got setback by 1lvl each except for one of the categories...the facils knew this alr but itink most of them kept it from their campers haha...itink some of the campers would have felt slightly annoyed or wadever coz they had worked hard to upgrade their tasklevels haha...the second intervention was about the 'aids epidemic' and the game rules are that the youngest female tribe member in each tribe would have to wear an aids tag...there was also an exhibition on aids awareness at another hall that each tribe has to send 3members to during the course of the game...
after the lastround of the game, which itink many tribes cheated haha, there was a talk by a worldvision worker sreymon who told her story to the audience...quite sad she had aids when she was quite young coz she was abandoned and involved in the sextrade in cambodia...however she had the resolve to continue living and now works in worldvision cambodia...after the talk there was a candlelight memorial for the sichuanquake and myanmarcyclone victims...
wad a day of activities...it was slptime soon and the showerrooms were packed with campers and facils wanting to washup lol...the facilitators and gamemasters got to slp in an equipment room which was relli well-equipped with a powerful aircon inside the sportshall which had a less powerful aircon...idint bring slpingbag so slept on bedsheet which was on the hardwoodenfloor and used mi bag as a pillow and jacket as blanket lol...the sajc ppl were quite noisy at first coz they kept talking lol but icouldnt slp aniwae coz after their chat ihad a heavy series of cough lol pt said that it was so noisy alot of ppl cant slp lol...jefry yilyn n mi had a chat on jap rockbands lol...and still cant slp for most of the night coz iwas like coughing lol...idid slp for awhile but woke up soon to go toilet...the aircon was so cold its amazing lol...lucas cant take it and went out of the hall to slp lol...and iwas waiting for the 'lights on' which was relli lights on lol...and one of the first few things that were said after the 'lights on' was from judith who asked her sajc frens "anyone wants to study chem?" lol it was veryfunny haha...
the second day of the camp was newspaper collection which were done in tampines lol but before we set off for the activity there was a fitness trainer from amore fitness who led the camp in a morning workout lol...she was quite professional and fun too coz she managed to get the workout to quite an enthu-level...
each tribe had to collect newspapers from their assigned blocks at the housingestate lol so mi group had 4blocks which were less than the other tribes arnd our area...so we completed the collection rather quickly...it was a sundae afternoon so there were many ppl nt at hme then...but for those who answered our call for newspapers, there were many newspapers lol...
we finished the collection very quickly lol so quick that we played a whole array of funnygames lol and the 3hci guys went to a neighbouring block to slp/play with phone lol...chuanxin had a majorproblem with the funnygames which he couldnt figure out haha and his classmates had a great afternoon teasing him with the games...we came up with an idea to hide frm the hci guys and then give them fake info that we were on the wayback to acs(barker) lol and we spied on them frm the 2ndfloor lol...but after awhile the bus arrived so we gathered back and waited again at the pickup point with the other 2tribes in our area...
back at acs(barker), we waited for the other tribes before starting the area cleaning haha...mi group had this sian look when told that we were cleaning the toilets haha...but the toilets were alr cleaned and there was nthn much to do for most of the tribes cleaning toilets so we headed for the exhibition to c wad it was about...
it was veryhumid at the exhibition but it was quite interesting...the audience would be given a zenstone mp3 player with a prerecorded soundtrack which was like a narrated story and then follow the instructions by walking through the exhibition which was designed like a maze...
the camp was comin to an end and the finale was a concert at the auditorium...the funny hostess was there again haha and she interacted with some of the audience while sharing her own 30hr faminecamp experience...the performances were quite good, there was a local band, the superband winners, a dance performance, and the vip ppl spin the globethingy again lol and that was it! breakfast!
there was dinner provided and after 30hrs of faminecamp itink that the food was great lol although abit dry...and slightly bloated frm the soyabean forfeit from the game with the tribe before that lol...
