theatre review!

this was another free performance that iwent to for the arts fest haha...supei's friend pearlyn, whu also happened to be at the faminecamp, did not want to go for the full frontal:rhinocerous show at the esplanade theatre studios coz she wanted to eat chocolate buffet!?!?oh well...so supei invited mi to go for the show!

before the show we had dinner at shokudo at raffles city basement...its a japanese cuisine restaurant with the 'scan ur card to pay for your food' system marche-styled...and as u would expect...the food is quite expensive!so we found some cheap food inside-relatively cheaper compared to the rest of the stuff-and it was quite ok la...we ate different stuff but the important thing was that the tempura sauce/soup/wadever was freeflow!

~THEATRE REVIEW~
*****RHINOCEROUS*****

hmm ihardly go for theatre haha but thanks to supei's free tix...why not!?the esplanade theatre studios was very packed...itink got fullhouse...and ibelieve the frens of one of the cast were sitting behind our row...haha quite funny...

rhinocerous is the fullfrontal project for this yr...itink it was a competition of sorts to select a local director and let him/her direct a play to be performed to the public...

the play is an absurdist play, which according to supei, means that its rather nonsense in the way the characters interact and the story develop lol...for rhinocerous, the main storyline is about ppl turning into rhinos and what happens when ppl dun conform to the so-called societal norms lol...rather interesting idea and one of the highlights of the play was when karentan's character transforms into a rhino lol while her bewildered fren is...well...bewildered...lol

generally the play is well developed and the first act has a hilarious scene with a logician discussing logic on rhinos lol...however sometimes the pace of the play slows down...but overall it was a very good performance...and they dint use multimedia like overheadvisuals, relying instead on oldschool traditional acting to bring the show to life and effect was quite good lol...

intro
before watching this movie...idint tink that kungfu panda would be such a good cgi movie haha...

synopsis
the main character of the movie, po, the panda on that poster, is a noodle shop assistant at his father's noodle shop, but at night he dreams of kungfu stuff and martial arts action...so when the kungfu dojo holds a martial arts tournament to select the 'dragon warrior', po had to be at the tournament to find out whu the dragon warrior is...but he, without any training, was chosen to be the dragon warrior!

the animation is good, and the colour scheme fits very well too!bright and cheery!jackblack does a wonderful job voicing po...and the movie brings its point across to the audience quite easily itink...the underlying 'moral of the story' lol...ok and the soundtrack is great...dun relli rmb the soundtrack lol coz its like few wks ago alr but i do rmb that iwas going "wah the soundtrack pro" or smthing liddat lol so iguess its quite good!

came back from the 30hr famine camp yesterday...being a facilitator was quite fun haha although the camp was so tiring...hope the huachong ppl in my tribe learnt smthing from the camp!

went to vivocity with jefry and hofai to watch kungfu panda! movie review on another blogpost.

after the nice movie, we had lunch at harbourfront shopping centre kfc which according to jefry has one of, if not the best, interior design, among all the kfc in sg...thanks hofai hijack the comfy sofa...lol

aniwae...after that we went jefry hse to 'product sample' his ps3...the graphics were excellent and the game, gta4, was very good...the driving part is relli difficult to master but fun to play lol...

sunna arrived at jefry hse after his tuition and we played summore before heading to dhobygaut to meet bear for the sinema movie screening...

at plazasing, we met more 'allies' lol evan kevin and chris joined us for the movie screening...so after buying dinnr, we went up this 'mountain' of steps to reach the mtsophia sinema...the show was relli 3 short films by local directors...and sinema entrance was free for the shortfilm screening...

the shortfilms were notbad lol and after that we went down the 'mountain' and ate soyabeancurd and soyabeandrink at a very famous stall...the texture was excellent...lol

haha this is a mission:singapore 'mission' something like what ImprovEverywhere does...basically...creating fun scenes that puzzle the ppl whu dunno lol...was actually in that video lol but dint take part in the 'gunfight' coz that guy gave such a long briefing...lol

pohteck n his colleague were also there but we decided not to take part coz they drag the briefing very long alr...yeah there was also rain so they had to shift the mission to a sheltered location

yeah i did this drawing online! u can draw something online too with RateMyDrawings!

the program saves your brushwork as a video, which is a very cool feature! the drawback is that there is limited 'ink' that u can use so have to plan your drawing carefully. according to the website faq this is done to prevent lagging and large file sizes...lol

this video is done by ImprovEverywhere...a global 'organisation' that creates fun and puzzling scenes in public with the help of participant 'agents'...and the participants are all gathered from the general public lol...

but for this video itink they got professional singers...coz their timing is very good!

theatre review!

went to watch architecture of silence at esplanade theatre! itink it was the first time ive been inside the esplanade theatre haha. from what i rmb itink that the difference between the theatre and the concert hall is the concert hall has this big thingy hanging from the ceiling at the center of the concert hall...and also the theatre has an orchestra area in front of the stage...

ok now for the review!

Architecture of Silence
Slovene National Theatres Opera & Ballet Maribor and Ljubljana/Singapore Festival Orchestra

the performance starts with the group of dancers wearing suits and dresses and swimming caps sitting on sofas arranged in a box fashion...then a few of them starts dancing, taking turns...with the orchestra below silent for the moment...this part was very cool...without the music, the dancers had to keep to the timing of the dance by themselves, and it was clear that they had lots of training...

the orchestra was the Singapore Festival Orchestra and they played very well that night! the surprising thing was there was a 80strong choir seated in 4 rows in the 'backdrop' of the stage...when the curtains went up to reveal them itink most of the audience would have got quite a surprise lol...

there were also 5 other vocalists who were excellent...ESPECIALLY the soprano! the soprano was one of the highlights of the performance in mi opinion...her singing was powerful yet sensual...

there were many other surprises for the rest of the performance, and itink the audience were kept entertained with the myriad of strong yet fluid dance moves. the inspiration behind the act was the fish, the symbol of silence according to the programme booklet, and the dance choreography reflected that very well. there were also water elements being used on stage such as the fish tank.

when the performance was over there was rapturous applause, even though many seats were unfilled in the theatre...there were standing ovations too...and charmaine and her brother were giving standing ovations haha...i shouted 'bravo' for the soprano lol but the applause was very loud...the applause lasted very long haha but the performance deserved it!

supei very paiseh haha we thought u were not watching at all coz the 3 of us dunno where u were! when i saw ur msg sharis and me were at citylink alr and charmaine was loitering around esplanade haha...lets plan an ice cream outing!

watched the narnia:prince caspian with jefry, mojo, evan and hofai at 1030am cine haha and thanks to them for accomodating to mi schedule by watching it so early lol...

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

hmm dun wan to put up another pic of prince caspian coz theres alr 2 of them in prev blogposts haha...this instalment of the narnia series was quite good...but it focused alot on fighting which, other than the big battle with moving trees and the water elemental, is rather stale...but the duel before the big battle was exciting...ok wun spoil too much of the movie haha...

mojo was right...this movie would have got 3/5 if not for the water elemental...haha
